Rs 50 banknotes in the Mahatma Gandhi (New) Series having the signature of Governor of RBI Urjit R. Patel.
The central bank said in a release on Friday 18 August 2017 officially which will be fluorescent blue in colour.
The note has geometric patterns aligning with the overall colour scheme, both at the obverse and reverse. The Rs 50 denomination bank notes in the new series will bear the signature of RBI Governor Urjit R Patel. Like the other Indian rupee banknotes, the ₹50 banknote has its amount written in 17 languages. The languages are displayed in alphabetical order.

It has been in continuous production since Reserve Bank of India took over the functions of the controller of currency in India in 1935. The old Rs 100 currency note will continue to be legal tender.

On the obverse, the denomination is written in English and Hindi. Number panel with numerals growing from small to big on the top left side and bottom right side.
